A ballot box with a coin dropping into its slot, the cover of this guide In traditional finance, shareholders of a public company have the right to vote on major decisions at an annual general meeting. But voting goes through brokers or other third parties, and practically speaking, most retail shareholders never vote at all. Jupiter DAO removes that friction. It gives the community a direct way to express itself and shape the future of Jupiter, on big issues like how the DAO’s assets are allocated and changes to tokenomics. No intermediaries or brokers, just your wallet and your stake.

What is a DAO?

stands for Decentralized Autonomous Organization. Rather than being governed by a board of directors or a management team behind closed doors, a DAO is governed by its community through smart contracts on the blockchain. Its features come straight from its name:
  • Decentralized: votes are gathered on the blockchain, so anyone in the world who holds the right stake can take part, with no intermediary or other barrier in between.
  • Autonomous: votes are cast and counted through smart contracts, and every vote is recorded onchain, where anyone can check it.

The Jupiter DAO

The Jupiter DAO is the governance layer of the Jupiter ecosystem. The aim is clear: turn passive token holders into active participants with a real say in the protocol’s direction. The DAO was seeded with 100 million JUP and 10 million USDC, and JUP stakers vote on proposals about how these assets are allocated and on broader governance decisions. Past decisions include a community-approved reduction of the total supply of the token; the Supply Reduction Proposal explains its rationale. Every vote is an onchain transaction, and you can browse all past proposals and their results on vote.jup.ag.

The Proposals section of vote.jup.ag lists live and past votes with their status and results.

Voting power: staking your JUP

To gain voting power, you need to obtain JUP tokens and stake them. Only staked JUP counts: JUP sitting in your wallet cannot vote. Your voting power is proportional to your staked balance. The higher your share of all staked JUP, the more your voice counts.
  • Locked while staked: staked JUP is held in the governance smart contract and is not liquid until you unstake it. You can add more to your stake at any time.
  • Unstaking and cooldown: you can start unstaking at any time, but a 7-day cooldown applies before you can claim your tokens back to your wallet, and you can cancel it in the meantime. The cooldown prevents members from staking briefly around reward distributions and leaving right after. Your voting power also decreases during unstaking: for partial unstakes, it drops instantly by the unstaked amount; for full unstakes, it decreases linearly over the 7 days.

Active Staking Rewards

While you help shape Jupiter’s future, staking also makes you eligible for Active Staking Rewards (ASR). ASR is a quarterly program that distributes JUP to stakers: every quarter, 50 million JUP from the community allocation goes to eligible stakers.
  • Eligibility: your share is based on your time-weighted stake over the quarter, so both the amount you stake and how long it stays staked count. is enough: you do not need to vote to qualify, and the option you vote for has no effect.
  • Claiming: ASR is claimed in the Jupiter Rewards Hub, not on vote.jup.ag. Claims open shortly after the quarter ends and stay open for a limited window. Claimed ASR is added to your staked balance, which increases your voting power.
  • Unclaimed rewards: once the Rewards Hub shows that claims have ended, you can still claim through a support ticket until the deadline shown on the campaign page. Rewards left unclaimed are not distributed automatically.
vote.jup.ag shows an Estimated APY and, once you have staked, your Estimated Annual Rewards. Both assume the yearly ASR budget (four quarters of 50 million JUP) is split by today’s share of the total stake, so they change as the total amount staked changes. They are estimates, not a promise.

The Jupiter Forum

Each vote matters, and the discussions around votes can get lively. To gather those conversations in one place, Jupiter runs the Jupiter Forum, also called JUP Research.
The Jupiter Forum home page with its categories, tags and latest topics

The Jupiter Forum at discuss.jup.ag.

There, the community and the team can share early drafts of proposals, collect feedback, and adjust the plan accordingly. It’s a space for members of the DAO to express themselves early, or to bring fresh ideas for future votes.

How do you join?

1

Go to the governance site

Go to vote.jup.ag and connect your wallet. You can use a desktop browser or your wallet’s in-app browser on mobile.
2

Stake your JUP

Enter the amount of JUP you wish to stake, select Stake, and approve the transaction in your wallet. Your voting power updates once the transaction confirms.
3

Browse and vote on active proposals

Scroll to the Proposals section, where active proposals appear at the top. Open a proposal, read it and the related forum discussion if there is one, then choose your option, select Vote, and confirm the transaction. Voting is an onchain transaction, so keep about 0.01 SOL in your wallet for the fee.
4

Claim your ASR rewards

When ASR claims open after the quarter, connect your staking wallet to jup.ag/rewards and claim. You cannot claim while you are unstaking: wait for the cooldown to end, or cancel the unstake first.
Congrats! You are now a JUP staker, ready to take part in Jupiter governance.
